Do you know the history of north-african immigration in France and the complexity of being born in an ex-colonizer country?

"Wesh!" online conferences in english aim to highlight our plural diaspora counting around 5 million people in France. 

To celebrate and value our diasporic identities, we are proud to have created our own independent cultural space in the center of Paris, with my team: the Kif-Kif Bledi Studio.

"Wesh" is an algerian word that combined to other words means "What? What's going on?". 

The word has been used in France - with plenty of other ones - by young people from north-african immigrant backgrounds as slang from the 90s. 

It is now part of the French dictionary.

This online session aims to explain why we are here, how we live and co-build between 2 countries and cultures and our complexities as french-moroccan, french-algerian or french-tunisian people.

And why we decided to create a diasporic north-african place in Paris with Kif-Kif Bledi.

There will be future sessions with guests. 

This first session will be a first journey through a historical chronology:

- how France sent massively north-african men at the front of the two world wars

- the arrival of workers from North-Africa in the 50s to the 70s to help to rebuild France

- our revendications against racism in the 80s

- the north-african artists trend in the 90s

- and how we live since the 2000s in a context in which we are stigmatized because of terrorism
